Visual Stress

About Visual Stress

Some people experience difficulties such as blurred, or moving text, when they are reading. This is known as Visual Stress or Irlen’s Sydndrome (more commonly in the United States).

People experiencing visual stresss may complain of one, or several, of the following:

  • Letters appear blurred when reading
  • Letters appear to move, or to break in two when reading
  • Headaches when reading
  • They find it hard to track words across the page
  • Difficulty reading small print, particularly if it is close together

People experiencing these symptoms should seek advice from a specialist behavioural optometrist, a list is available via the British Association of Behavioural Optometrists.
